Exceptions to the Rules: Neuter Endings

 

The exceptions for neuter adjectives are also more restricted than masculine adjectives.

 

Summary of Neuter Adjective Suffixes

-ое : most common suffix
-ее : when the adjective stem ends with -н, -ч, -щ, -ш, -ж, or -ц

For example, синее полотенце means "dark blue towel".

The adjective for "good" has the stem хорош-

Summary of Plural Adjective Suffixes

-ые : most common suffix
-ие : when the adjective stem ends with -н, -k, -г, -x, -ч, -щ, -ш, or -ж

Plural suffixes are modified by the same group of letters as the masculine adjectives.

For example, "dark blue eyes" is written as синие глаза.
